About the Community & Campus Day of Service

The Day of Service was a great success! In the course of 4 1/2 hours, we packaged 147,162 meals, which were delivered to Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Learn more on The Food Packaging Project page.

Last year more than 1,500 volunteers participated in more than 20 volunteer projects across Champaign-Urbana for the Community & Campus Day of Service. This year, members of the local community and University of Illinois faculty, staff, and students will join forces once again to kick off National Volunteer Week 2014, which will take place from April 6-12. Our primary project, The Food Packaging Project, involves packaging 147,000 meals - one thousand for every year of public engagement since the University was chartered - for local foodbanks to be distributed to needy families in Champaign-Urbana.

Hundreds of volunteers are needed for the food packaging project as well as a number of other projects being planned to benefit the local community. Several volunteer shifts will be available during the day.

Registration closed - all shifts full!

Or plan your own community service project and let us know about it!
